Is your home a Petocracy? – Best Comment wins
This competition has now closed. Please see below for the winning comment!
Congratulations to Mary & Robert Rudd. You are the winners of a dog toy and bowl! We loved reading your entry, it brought a smile to all our faces
“My husband and I recently went shopping for a new bed for ourselves. We wandered around the vast showroom of a leading bedroom furniture shop – measuring and exploring the dimensions of different beds, the ground space from floor to base of bed, ect. A very enthusiastic saleswoman came to our assistance and we gave her a description of the type of bed we wanted. My husband was VERY specific about the exact dimensions the bed needed to have as ‘under bed’ space. The saleswoman went round the various beds, measuring, checking sizes and even looking up different catalogues.
She showed us a few that were different sizes but my husband was very direct and adamant that only beds (regardless of price) needed to meet our specific measurements. The floor manager even became involved and after we rejected a few excellent selections due to ‘not enough under bed space’ the saleswoman and floor manager asked why it had to be exactly to these size dimensions.
The answer – of course – “so our dogs don’t bump their heads under the bed when they are getting in and out of their heated doggy beds which are placed under our own bed!!!”
Doesn’t everyone buy their beds to meet the needs of their dog’s requirements. Well, we do!!
Needless to say, after my husband stated this fact – quite blatantly and with an attitude of ‘der!’, the floor manager and saleswoman gave us a few moments of their own ’special’ looks and excused themselves to look after other customers!! –
PS: still looking for the right bed that will also suit our 3 doggie family members.
PSS: even our caravan has a ’special bed space’ for their beds while they are holidaying with us.”
Leave a comment telling us how pampered your dog is to win a Chew Toy and Food Bowl! The most original comment will win! Be sure to include a valid email address so we can contact you about your prize. The promotion ends on the 19th of July and the winner will be announced on Friday the 30th of July 2010.
Obviously each of us love our pooch dearly, and want to create the most loving home environment, yet lately, what experts are calling ‘petocracies’ are becoming more and more prevalent in Australian households. A Petocracy is a pet-democracy…where your furry friend has equal (or sometimes more) say in the way the household is run than its human inhabitants. To find out if your home is a petocracy, take our fun, easy quiz and discover whether you’ve been usurped as ruler of your roost!

It’s bedtime. You:
a) Put your dog outside for the night
b) Send him to bed in his dog-bed in the laundry
c) Let him curl up at the foot of your bed…he’s a good foot warmer!
d) Plump up the pillow in your bed that he likes to sleep on and make sure he has most of the blankets.
Your dog’s diet consists of:
a) Dry food only
b) Mostly dry food, with chicken necks, bones and other morsels as occasional treats
c) A mixture of dry and wet food, with daily treats and a specially-designed eating plan to keep him interested and fit.
d) It depends on the day of the week. He likes steak on Mondays, liver on Tuesdays, and I bake him little foie gras biscuits on Wednesday….
How often do you walk your dog?
a) Two or three times a week
b) Once a day, with a bit of a run in the dog park.
c) Twice a day, being sure to change up the locations so he stays interested.
d) However often he feels like it. When he is too tired to walk I carry him in my doggy backpack so he can still experience the scenery.

The rules you have for your dog are:
a) Very strict—dogs need discipline otherwise they get carried away.
b) Fairly strict—he knows who is boss but sometimes gets away with things for being so cute!
c) Quite lax—he knows how to get what he wants by using his puppy charm.
d) No watching Law and Order (the theme song bothers him), no staying out past 9pm (he gets lonely) and no chocolate in the house (it’s dangerous for dogs)….Oh, you meant what rules do I have for the dog….
Now for the tally…
Mostly As:
You’re from the old school, and believe that dogs need to firmly know their place and respect their masters. You’re diligent in setting up boundaries for your pet and value obedience, loyalty and good behaviour. This is a perfectly acceptable attitude towards dog ownership, just remember to let your hair down and have some fun with your pooch…after all, it’s what they’re best at!
Mostly Bs:
While discipline is important to you, you recognise the importance of a pooch needing to fit in with the family’s lifestyle, not the other way around. You can’t help but indulge your furry friend every once in a while and you like to be organised in your approach to having a pet.

Mostly Cs:
Your dog is an important member of your family and you consider its needs as a high priority. You work hard to ensure your pooch’s happiness and probably sacrifice a lot of time to its care…which is worth it for you because of the love and affection you get back in return.
Mostly Ds:
Oh, Mostly Ds, what are we going to do with you? You’ve given complete control over to your canine commander–whoops, sorry—companion, but we’ll forgive you because, well, we love dogs too! Just make sure you try to set some boundaries, as dogs do respect leadership and need to know what behaviour is acceptable.

Teddy snuggles with me every night and when anyone sleeps over and sleeps on HIS side of the bed he bugs that person my licking or play biting until they move over a little so he can fit
Helen Ireland says:
We were so disgusted by the pet-friendly house we booked for a holiday that we bought a caravan so we could take our dog on holidays that met her stringent standards. Still not completely satisfied, we bought a pet friendly holiday cottage in the Blue Mountains and now she shares it with other pampered pooches who need a break.
littlefay says:
The Lord Llewellyn (Pembroke corgi) was miffed last week. He was allowed to stay at the motel but had to sleep in our car outside our room. He generally sleeps in our bedroom at night.
Rebekka says:
Our dog Bundy is very spoilt, he often gets to sleep on the bed with us which in turn makes the poor cat sleep somewhere else! He has the cutest puppy dog eyes which I’m always giving into andhe knows how to get away with things!
Keryn says:
Our dogs although have their own beds made up each night with pillows and blankets. I wouldn’t say they are spoilt though – just loved.
Shirley Nairn says:

I have 3 dogs, a 15y.o. Chihuahua, 5y.o. Jack Russell and a 5y.o. Tot Poodle. They all sleep with me, 2 under the bed clothes and 1 on top. They have steak every night for tea, and go for drives in my car.
The Jack Russell likes to watch T.V. especially animal shows and Inspector Rex. They can tell by what clothes I wear whether they can come for a drive or not.
Narelle Rigney says:
My English Staffy and Chihuahua sleep with me. On most occasions my husband sleeps in our spare room as the Staffy kicks him out of our bed as she likes to stretch out when sleeping and there is not enough room.
Cheryl Taylor says:

meg says:
Molly is a moodle, she thinks she is a human, that is just how pampered she is. Strutting round with her L V jacket! I wonder if she can get a handbag to match her jacket!!!
Jeanette Ford says:
We have a Male Maltese Shitzhu, I have never met a more intelligent dog. He is spoilt but still is very obedient. He Sleeps in the garage off the house with a Kennel and Velvet Cushion and a trampoline on the outside with a sheeps skin and blanket. he goes out at night with his coat on in the Winter and is covered up on the trampoline. He is a fussy eater but eats chicken, livers and dry foods.
Most of the day he sleeps on our leather lounge in the lounge room while we are home, or in the Winter in front of our Fire. He is bathed every week-end and blow dried, coat and round eyes trimmed every week. He is always wormed regularly as well as Flea deterant every month. You can nurse him like a baby and he will just sleep in your arms. He is 4 year old now.

I have had my dog only 3 weeks. I got her from the RSPCA and her history is she was a dog seized by the pound. Her name is Tanzi and she is only 5 months old so she is getting into a fair amount of mischief. Tanzi is a lab x mastiff. When she gets into trouble she lays on the floor and sulks and looks at me as much to say “I was an abandoned dog you know”. I find it hard not to feel bad lol!!! I have put her in doggy daycare 2 days a week because I am worried about her being at home by herself. She has a sheepskin bed which I also put in the car for her. Ok so she sleeps inside too but not on my bed. When i go out i leave her inside with the TV on..the comfort of human voices. She also has outside toys and inside toys.
agnes crawford says:
my mum -in-law says my two dogs are spoilt rotten but I just reply ,”Oh no they are not, they are totally ruined.” And they do truly rule the roost here would”nt have it any other way, love my boys
Helena Tupila says:
Guilty as charged to mostly C’s TOTALLY PAMPERED in this house not TOTALLY WILD all you need is love.
Kay Lewis says:
We obviously have a Petocracy House as Miss Mollie will tell me when it’s time to go to bed.
She walks up and down the hallway and if ignored she will come and jump on my lap and then stand in the doorway looking toward the bedroom until I finally go to bed with her.
She then will get under the covers with her head on her Daddy’s pillow until he comes to bed.
Karyn Steele says:
My two great danes Benson and Poppy, put their coats on after dinner, sleep in our king sized bed each night. Also while at work I cover the sofa so they can watch tv or listen to the radio while they eat their bones in comfort. I believe they are the best companions anyone can have and give more love than any human. (mostly C’s but they are more important to me than any of the other household members haha)
Rey says:
Our puppy is so pampered, we used our old port-a-cot for a bed! It was great- when he woke up in the night, he couldn’t destroy anything before we woke up. Now he’s graduated to a bassinette outside…
Pat Catchpole says:
I reckon if my dogs took this test on my behalf they’d come up mostly Ds. I,
however, like to consider this a C household. Yeah, OK, they are the boss
of laps, and sleeping wherever they darn well please, AND they think they
are the food bosses. But they come when they are called, leave whatever
they are being told to ‘leave it’ and they…slowly…respond to NO. A
good balance I reckon. They think they are the boss…I think I am. Everyone’s
happy.
Jawa (Tracie Pascoe) says:
Well…it is far too cold for my German Shepherd Jawa, and she really needed a wash so I took her in to the shower with me and washed her hehe I tried to dry her off with the hairdryer but she’s scared of it! Everynight she sleeps underneath our bed and when she pokes her head out she looks so cute!
Helena Doherty says:
I love my doggies soo much that they sleep under the covers in my bed in this cold weather (no room for hubby). I only work a part time job because I don’t want to leave them too long. In the mornings I change the channel to Nick jr so it will keep them company while I’m out. My doggies have their own chair at the dinner table and love to eat some of what we are having for dinner, especially chicken or pasta. They have their own toy box which I keep full for them, rotating toys often. I’ve broken numberous items in my home becuase they like to play fetch in the evening time while we are watching television, my bad! Oh dear, I think my home is a petocracy.
Kate says:
My little man is inside as soon as I get home, and on my lap as soon as I sit. I live him to much and cuddle him so much he gets huffy and give me a look as if to say ‘awe mum, leave me alone!’
Sue Waters says:
My Ellie is a 6 year old cream female miniature poodle, she is my soul mate, follows me everywhere, wants to be on my lap, close to me all the time.
She runs down our long driveway to meet me when I come home in the car and I open my door to let her in, she is fullof kisses and cuddles.
I want her to be healthy and happy and she gives me beautiful puppies sometimes to sell,
She sleeps with my, but has her own case basket under my desk to sleep at my feet, and sits on my lap to watch tv, taking interest in what is on.
I love my Ellie so much
Danni says:
The definition of Petocracy: when it came time to replace the traditional day dog beds in the lounge, we decided to buy our four German Shepherds their own futon sofa bed – custom made and imported directly from Canada!
cathy macnamara says:
After taking the quiz i am not as bad as I thought! It is Miss Almost Two who spoils our inside dog the most! SHe follows her Poppy dog around with handfuls of dog biscuits and puts them on the dog’s chair or in a little pile where she hides under the bed so there is always a snack ready if the dog gets hungry! She also likes to play cards with the ever patient pooch and she covers the dog up with the clean washing because apparently the dog might be cold!
Bonni Elliott says:
my dog is still only a puppy so shes is pretty pampered sleeps inside every night with me so she doesnt get cold … eat everything i eat and gets lots of exercise and she even has her own toy box full of toys which she never put back i love her soooooo very much if that isnt enough to wini give up she deserves it
Glenn Wood says:
Petocracy my foot. In our household it is an absolute monarchy. Merlin and Fudge (standard smooth Daschunds) are the rulers and we are but their most humble servants.
kakan says:
She sleeps in our bed under a goose down quilt and also sleeps on the loung during the day in front of a gas heater. She can come and go as she please as we leave the back door slightly open. She is a big dog but still sits on her daddys’ lap. She watches television and gets breakfast, lunch and dinner. She does not know what it is like to be hot or cold, as she spends most of her time inside, by her choice. Very spoilt, I sometimes think she only lets us be here because we feed her.
Sue says:
Lucy (Kelpie/Staffy cross) has grown very attached to the heater this colder than normal winter.
Late afternoon she often sits in front of it – when it isnt on, and gives us the “why is my heater not yet on?” look. Even though we might not need the heater just then, we soon give in to her “look”. She turns around, with nose 1 inch from the hot air and remains there – blocking the heat for everyone else.
She appears to have no in-built thermostat, and only rotates from nose to backside infront of the hot air – all evening.
I normally have to turn the heater off (even though we then need it), and tell her “you are so warm you’re woozy”.
Finally, when she (and we) are cold, she decides to go to bed. When the coast is clear, we can then turn the heater back on, and appreciate the warm air – as she isnt hogging it!
But it doesnt end there… when we retire to bed, she has already settled in on the electric blanket, pretends she is asleep so we dont move her, and hogs the middle of the bed & doona!
simonepaul says:
1 A I will make the bed so both puppies will have the pillow between me and my hubby and get blankets on them too.
2 C They go to the pet cafe and buy heaps of treats for the week and they love seeing the people there and they get dry food and chicken necks, frames etc
3 C they get to pick up the kids and drop them off at school and they also on the hoildays get walked twice a day different roots each time. and get a treat at the end of the walk.
4 B my babies know when they need to put the puppy charm on and they do it every well. my babies are very well behaved they are so happy and we love them heaps.
Mary Lee says:
Our dog Dusty just loves to run up and down the yard when motorbikes go by – she loves them. My husband bought a Harley just so she could have her very own bike. Of course he has to ride it to make the noise for her. But he tells everyone he bought it for her.
BellAngus says:
My Cavaliers, Bella and Angus, are the front runners in the revolution for dogs. As i type this, Angus sits on the top of my desk, reviewing my entry. If we have visitors, he will quickly jump onto a chair, and woe betide those who attempt to remove him from his throne! “Stand, or sit on the floor human, and remember your place in MY HOUSE!”
The spare pillow on my bed is turned vertically so as to allow Angus to sleep in the spot in-between – rotating during the night so either his head is on my pillow or his bot-bot is in my face. If its a cold night, i will feel nudging from both babies at various intervals on my arm so that i can lift the doona for them to snuggle underneath. A Queen sized bed and yet I’m somehow always ending up sleeping on the very edge! My home.. or should i say, Bella and Angus’ home, is undoubtedly a Petocracy. And we wouldn’t have it any other way!!
sarah says:
bender is a very important member of our family and in return for his good behaviour he gets the bonuses of being a little pampered – bed in prime position in front of the heater (with a move to the bedroom at night when its cold!), his own custom made doggy jumper, special treats on occasions and of course continuous love and cuddles!
Carol Crompton says:
Is there an E category – for our dogs rule our life and have us trained to please them!
Barbara Goodwin says:
I have 2 dogs named Jasper and Peanut and they are my loyal companions.
My little girl Peanut is nearly blind now so I have a tendency to spoil her a little more than my boy Jasper, with a extra cuddle, carry her outside for her wees and so on.
Both my dogs sleep in the same bed which has its own mattress, sheet and towel to cover every thing with 2 pillows for them to rest their weary heads on (and they do just that).
Although they are well disciplined, they are very happy dogs because they are welI look after and they know that I love them very dearly.
jodi fitt says:
Our overly spoilt shihtzu is nearly 12 yo, and walkies is getting harder. To fix this problem, we put him in a pram. He gets fresh air and on-coming walkers get a good laugh.
Susanne Bretherton says:
We have four FoxieXs and they run our household, when we go to bed [they all share it with us[ when we get up, when it is time for their food, and when the alarm goes off on my phone the 4 of em wait barking at the gate to go for a ride in the car to get the grandson from work. Ah they do have us completly under controll.
Alisha Gear says:
Our baby is not just a “dog”!! He is a valued member of our family and receives the exact same priveleges as a human would. He sleeps in the pillows ABOVE my head. He curls up ON the lounge. When we go walking, and the distance has finally gotten to him, he simply tugs on my shorts or jumper sleeve and he promptly gets picked up. He then leans into my shoulder for the remainder of the walk!! We firmly believe all of our “babies” are not just animals but actually an extension of us. If you would not do it to a human, then why do it to an animal. E.g. do you send your child to sleep in a wood structure in the backyard? Do you tie your child to the clothes line so they only see the same view day in, day out?
We LOVE our babies!!!
Elfriede Fairhead says:
My 2 little friends are with me 24 7, my husband sleeps in another bed now with his little foxie mate and I with my 2 toy poodles. In the morning they get carried outside followed with a morning treat of a much loved Schmacko which I break into little pieces as they are very old and have very few teeth. they are 16 and 15 years old and my husbands little dog is still a young 5 who keeps them on their toes by playing with them.
Cindy Tyler says:
Muttley is a fifty kilo English Mastiff. His favourite time of the day is when my husband comes home from work. We sit together on the sofa and Muttley climbs up and lays across both our laps. He thinks he is a lap dog despite his size.
Christine Speight says:
My Jack Russell cross, Flea, has a bad back but still likes seeing he’s friends out walking, so I bought a second hand pram and put him in it to take him to see his friends. He can get out and play with them and then be put in the pram for the walk home. Oh, and I don’t take him in the car because he gets car sick.
Marg Cordell says:
My dog although small has the biggest heart for all. whether they are two leggeds or four, even none, she is always ready to smile, lick and wag.
Ms Rhonda Portlock says:
Molly is extremely pampered, she sleeps with me under the covers as she hates the cold, I warm her food up, I cook her mince and vegies and why should she eat them cold, we dont. I walk her for an hour each day without fail, keeps her young and agile. she never sleeps outside, hates it anyway. In the summer she loves to lie in front of the fan to keep cool and loves going to the beach every day and have a swim. When I go away on holidays I have a great friend who is just as good with her dog as I am with mine and I know she is well taken care of, otherwise I wouldnt go away. Molly is a huge part of my family and deserves to be treated with the love and repect that she gives me.
Lea Stevens says:
SIGN BY THE FRONT DOOR ::
This house is maintained for the comfort and security of our dogs..
If you cannot accept that , then we cannot accept you !!
Visit somerwhere else where you will be happier, and much more comfortable ….
sharon gardner says:
I just wanted to note that when I checked this survey with my dog she felt it was very bias against her kind of pet…. you have to understand that if we dont leave the light on against the dark for her she is unable to locate the toilet, and having a set bedtime for us….i mean her is just good sense. She also wanted to note that the questions regarding her diet were completley unnecessary because who knows what she will be in the mood for on a thursday ??? I mean really its all a little silly….
Roslyn Joy Ricci says:
Prince Rupert of Dernancourt hears me closing the fridge door late at night and bounds out, from where he has been warming the foot of my bed, looking expectantly at the fridge and licking his lips. Of course he wants his nightly toddy: pets’ milk warmed by 10 seconds in the microwave then mixed with a desert-spoon full of organic yoghurt. Prince Rupert checks out his Princedom every day with his body-guard: Giovanni Ricci (72 years young).
Helen Prowd says:
I have two dogs who insist that they are “fur persons” one female and one male, they have a combination of wet and dry food twice a day because if I give them one meal a day they usually vomit it all up so I halved their daily allowance as directed on the packets and rolls and give it to them 2 times a day. They also have their own beds with blankets they were once allowed on the bed at morning and evening but “NO” during the night there was not enough room for the 4of us.
they always have a little off the plate when we eat they love their cup of tea with soy milk and when we have supper there is always a very small snack to go to bed with and during the day they eat their vegies and their fruit and no they are not fat just constant browsers. they also know what they want when they want it. and let me know in nouncertain terms however during the night there is a race to get to “daddy’s recliner chair” to sleep on for the night who wins its the girl of course. no our children are n ot spoilt just well looked after the same way that I would want to be looked after.
lyn says:
we came out of quiz with mostly c’s and 1 b so I guess you can tell our dog- Molly- is very much part of our family.
Rod Clifford says:
My dogs knows the rules, boundaries, & limits & are quite firm I stick to them, 3 of them do obedience (yeah right), they know the alfa dog in our pack my wife. They know 5.00pm is dinner I know I must start preparing at 4.50pm so it is ready, a snap at the ankles if I’m a bit slow brings me into line. The most comfy arm chair belongs to the 1st one in it so long as its not me, but its my bed & sometimes they let me sleep in it. Life is great when you know your place in the pack I think!
Marly & Me says:
Hi There!
Oooop’s we have all ‘C’s – In all honesty we are not too sure if it’s a good thing or not???
I really do not know – what I would do without her, as every day we enjoy one another’s company, Marly has taught me so much & viser versa. Poor little thing is going through a tough time at present, with both hind knees dis-locating due to a genetic cross-breeding imperfection (kelpie, cattle & border collie cross). The hardest thing for us at the moment is not to see her running and jumping around like most dogs her age & breed. Now at 2yrs we want to give her the best quality of life for her remaining years at no cost to us, she is worth every penny.
The 3 of Us
Amie says:
My dog gets under the blankets with me each night and if the blankets come off him at night he cries until I wake up (which is pretty quickly) to let him back under. He is a ridgeback but leaves a surprising amount of hair behind so I vacuum his side of the bed each day.
Maggie says:
My dog is so pampered I have had to get up in the middle of the night and move to the other side of my bed as she has decided to spread out and pinch my pillow!
Jennifer Baillie says:
My Cavalier King Charles Spaniel ‘”Winston”" named after Winston Churchill, is not a dog he is a person and he lives like one. He sits on the lounge like a person. He eats like a person. He lives like a person. He is so spoilt and so very much loved. He has brought so much joy to my husband and I. We could not imagine life without him, and we’ve only had him 5 months since he was 8 weeks old. He is adorable.
Gwyn Young says:
Our dog, Bear (Aussie Kelpie/Lab retriever has her own house. It is more a house than a kennel. It is outside, but under our large awning/bbq area. My husband built it out of timber. It is fully carpeted and the carpet gets replaced quite frequently as she chews it up at night. She has a varied diet consisting of some tin food, mainly biscuits and left overs. She likes meat pie and anything sweet. She goes for a run every afternoon with my husband while he is jogging in a reserve at the back of our house. She is the most loving dog with such a good nature. She is well trained and very obedient (selectively). She plays with our tom cat called Turbo. When it is really cold the cat curls up with her in her house. (has her name over the door). She also loves the beach.
Gayle Cheney says:
My dog knows the rules, but gets away with a few things as he is 13 years old. Being deaf and with some eye problems, he tends to get his own way at times. He is bossed around by the three cats, and lets them take his chair and bed. When he wants his chair he comes to me to remove the cat!!
He could growl at the cat, but he knows that is against the rules. Being a Border Collie cross, he really knows what to do, but often when he wants to do it. I guess that shows how intelligent he is?
Leeann Bayliss says:
My baby is so pampered he has his own bedroom with windows to the front so he can keep an eye on anyone walking by, he does like to sleep with me though and takes up far too much of the bed. But as he is my most loving companion and gives me far more than I could ever give him it’s ok.
Yvonne Heinemann says:
My husband usually goes to bed about 8.30 if he is not in by then our teacup poodle barks at him goes and jumps on the bed waits a few minutes,if he is not ready then she will come and get him if she sees us changing our clothes she knows its Smacko time and runs around madly till she gets one.If I mention Morsel she knows she is in for some nice fresh baby octopus calamari and prawns loves them
Anita Enright says:
Oh my goodness…. how many beds does one dog need. Molly, our labrador has a bed outside in our alfresco area should she like comfort outside in the cool, one bed in our family room with a pillow and two blankets on it so she can be near us if she doesn’t feel like sharing the leather couch with us. At night there is a third bed outside our bedroom, the cushing is 4 inches thick and we have covered it with a mink single bed blanket. Her fourth bed is our king size bed. When we are there she jumps up and pushes herself between us stretching and pushing us to the outer edge.
Spoilt rotten through and through.
Faye Martin says:
Well my dog is a Jack Russell Fox Terrier,he is 12yrs old,who has really bad Arthritis in left back Hind leg…He has a comfortable Bed,it is low so he can ge into it…Also I feed him Bendia Dog Food, plus My Dog Sardines,Salmon, and Tuna which he loves,he sometimes gets a small Bone as well,he also has Pro-Plan as well I only give him small amounts of food each night with Pro-Plan…..Is that okay please I need to know what i shall give him,and what can I do to help him with his Arthritis………………
maggie says:
My German Shepherd is a big girl, so big that sometimes she takes up so much bed that I give up and go sleep on the ocuch!
Maida ( Marriott) says:
Fredd is my companion. She is a Foxy/Jack Russell X., Collingwood colors. White & Black. We go to Dog Obedience on Saturday mornings., She has passed Gr. 3., But being a typical Terrier, certainly has a mind of her own. She is 9 and a half yo. She is spoilt and sleeps with me on a queen sized bed, for a little dog, she takes up a LOT of room, and likes being under her blankets. Loves playing ‘silly buggers’ with my grand daughter’s border collie- Jess. She is the “Boss” , At night, she just sleeps on the couch next to me, till it is time to go to bed., or if it is real cold, she will put herself to bed, under my doona. gives me a warm spot when I get into bed.
Maida.
Peter McKenzie says:
Sharnie the miniture Schnauzer 6 years is such a loving member of the family and is always found at night beside the wife’s side of the bed on her soft bed on the sheep skin mat with her own teddy bear which she has had since berth. She get up at 7.10 am and comes downstairs for porridge or half weetbix dry and for the day has half a carrot and half an apple. She also eats loads of vegetables and fruit and eats premium dog food 1/3 cup Optimum with half a thin slice of processed meat.
Yes she always is searching and so attentive when food is around with much prancing and dancing to let you know she is there and often looks like she is vacuuming the floor.
Sharnie loves her walk briskly especially with her new blue harness to the nearby parklands where we let her run between us in a controlled manner and loves to run when called over the 50 metres many times and usually walks home much slower. Home she will drink and go straight to her day bed in the sun in front of the window in family room for her beloved sleep.
We couild not imagine life without or friendly, loving, peaceful and truly content Sharnie who is loved by all especially mum and other residents at my mothers Nursing home where sharnie is invited to visits every few months.
We care for Sharnie and she shares love and cares for every one she comes into contact with in all of her opportunities to give love and affection as only a Miniature Schnauzer can.

Plump up the pillow in your bed that he likes to sleep on and make sure he has most of the blankets.
A mixture of dry and wet food, with daily treats and a specially-designed eating plan to keep him interested and fit.
Once a day, with a bit of a run in the dog park. No watching Law and Order (the theme song bothers him), no staying out past 9pm (he gets lonely) and no chocolate in the house (it’s dangerous for dogs)….Oh, you meant what rules do I have for the dog….
Your dog is an important member of your family and you consider its needs as a high priority. You work hard to ensure your pooch’s happiness and probably sacrifice a lot of time to its care…which is worth it for you because of the love and affection you get back in return.
Heather Fox says:
My dog Taz luvs me unconditionally which i need at the moment. So he rules me and my house and keeps the other dogs and cats in line. Which is fine by me. I am a “C” owner.

Wendy Mackley says:
My dog is my best friend. He comforts me when I’m sad. He decides when it’s time to play, if we try to budge him from his sleep, we get the eye. And when he wants to walk wee better do i or he just continues to sook until we do.
Carrie says:
My Japanese Spitz is so pampered when I come home from work I find her snuggled up to my fiance in bed with her head on my pillow.
Killarney says:
Well i’m not sure what all this fuss about pampered dogs is! Pampered HUMANS more like!
My pet human is very spoiled! I let her sleep on my bed and I happily make sure her feet are kept warm at the computer! (Which is a trade off I guess because she can type on my behalf much easier with those dexterous digits of hers!) I offer her my meatiest bones even though she never takes me up on the offer… And I do make sure I keep that pesky “pet cat” away … what human would seriously wont those things around? I make sure they keep out of the room when i’m on duty! i also help with the landscaping of the back yard and i’m her personal trainer!
Okay, so maybe my pet human is a little spoiled!

I have 2 dogs, they brother and sister maltese x sydney silky’s named Hagrid and Ruby. Ruby my seizure alert dog and well Hagrid was the runt of the litter and was so cute we couldn’t resist him. In our home Ruby is the “Boss” except every now and then she let’s Hagrid rule the roost for a while, when she has had enough she very firmly puts him back in his place. In our home, Ruby does everything that normal dogs do but she is very special she can give me about upto a 15 minute warning when I am about to have a seizure, so I have time to get somewhere safe. Ruby is very obedient she can do all the usual stuff, come, sit, drop etc. Hagrid on the other hand can something come, sometimes sit. When it comes to Hagrid Ruby insists that things get done her way, In all things she is first.

I have a Pomeranian named Jess whom I rescued from Canberra last year. He is 5 years and has the run of the place. His doghouse is in the lounge room and his food bowl is right outside. He is totally spoiled but at the same time he knows when I am angry with him for doing something wrong. His love is unconditional and being on my own he is my soul mate. I would be lost without him.
Nicole Prager says:
Our dog Retro has such an impact on the house that he is the deciding factor about when and where our holidays are, if we holiday without him he stays with Nonna and she makes him fresh pasta and meat. Retro was a major consideration in the type of car we buy and the main reason I get up at 0600 to walk. I also don’t go out for a full day anymore as I can’t stand the thought of him being on his own for to long, he has swimming priveledges in our pool, and is baby sat by our neighbour if our outtings are predicted to be to long. Our weekend family trips often include a trip to the bush/beach/park/river for our pampered pooches enjoyment. It is all worth it to see his unbridled enthusiasm when we come home and his doting ways when he is with us. There is nothing more contagious than listening to your son giggling hysterically whilst playing with his best k9 mate. We are a household that can’t live without a pooch shadowing us.
Michele Hurst says:
Our two dogs wake us every morning at 6 a.m. to let us know it’s time for them to come up and get under our doona until they feel it’s time to get up. They have their own warm house with a heated dog mat inside downstairs but that isn’t good enough.
judi pope says:
Bill, my Maltese sleeps under the doona, squashed up to me and when I go to get him up in the morning, squeezes his eyes shut as if to say, ‘Can’t you see I’m still asleep?’

i found it hard to find a big enough dog jumper for my boarder collies bigger sizes just always seem to be sold out and in short supply. Sick of my poor dogs being cold i wend and bought human jumpers and altered them to suit my dogs so they could move more freely, so this winter they wouldnt be so cold while i wait for dog jumpers to come back into stock. This way they have nice fleecy warmth and individual style

Although Busta and Cassie don’t sleep on our bed anymore, (both Great Dane Mastiff crosses), they do have their own king single mattress, 8″ thickness of course, which is set up in our bedroom, well actually in our extended alcove with full length windows on all sides so they can enjoy the view and keep an eye on the bunnies. Even though we bought ourselves a King size bed so there was enough room for us all, Busta enjoys stretching out too much. Once the sun comes up and streams in their window, about 6.30 this time of year, he is straight over to our bed, puts his feet up on our chest and demands a full scratching to help him wake up. Cassie, the princess, prefers to sleep in as late as possible.

Teddy has 3 knitted jumpers and one raincoat, he has a igloo in the kids room a beanbag in the lounge a settee in the shed where I work and a kennel. He goes every where with me, sits and waits in the car while I take the kids to school all windows open, he would never jump out or make a nuisance of himself. He is a 14 year old Lhassa x dashhound and I’m a dog groomer and when I have a nervous dog he jumps up onto the grooming table to reassure them, If they are a bit naughty he will bark at them as if to tell them off.
He’s my TA my best friend and I love him to bits.

Diane Philp says:
Toby is our dearest companion and gives me a kiss every morning after hopping up onto our bed for a big cuddle. We even say come to Mummy come to Daddy. I thought my friend was crazy when they use to talk to their baby the same way as we are now talking to Toby. He is gorgeous cute and we love him as I am sure he loves us.

Liz Trembath says:
Our dog Lily knocks on the door when she wants to come in, sleeps on an electric pet bed and is inside whenever the weather is too hot or too cold or if she just feels like being inside with us! We play ball on command and feed her right on time so as not to disrupt her routine. Walks are strictly morning and night. She is never left out at night when we are out but is left with a hide bone, biscuits and a ball full of treats which she can amuse herself with in the absence of her playmates. She loves to cuddle on the lounge with us to watch telly! Her love is unconditional and unlimited.
We are the biggest suckers for our beautiful dog yet she is well behaved and does all she is told to do on command. We have the best of both worlds!

Our 2 girls, millie and lola are adoreable and are part of the family. Millie is top dog and lets Lola know every now and then when she growls at her. Lola just turns her head and pretends Millie is growling at someone else.
Sue Barber says:
Amy won’t eat her bones unless they have been put in the microwave for just long enough to warm them up – a Rottweiler needs something warm to start her day.

We adopted a 2yr old Lab x Rotty late last year, he is the biggest, gentlest, goofiest pup you’ll ever meet. His name is Zoro, his favourite treats are apples and I freely admit to spoiling him rotten. Zoro is fantastic with other animals, even our cat who is none too fond of him. Adopting a dog rather than buying a puppy has been the best decision for our family, the kids adore him and now that my youngest is getting older I still have someone to fuss over.
lisa fairbridge says:
My dog is an ex showdog and she needs a new bowl and chew toy because she is so pampered that when she puts holes in her chew toys (even if they are tiny ones) she refuses to play with it anymore. It is costing me a fortune to replace her chewtoys.
Coral says:
We have 2 Border Terriers – Monty and Molly. They are 6.5 years old and my husband and I now have separate beds so the dogs have got more room. Monty goes with his dad and Molly with her mum. I have to ask Molly to “budge up please” so she will get off my pillow and go on her own. They don’t get up without a cup of Twinings Orange Pekoe tea.
Rita Searle says:
In Winter Scruffy wears a coat, and has his blanket pulled right over him at night on the end of our bed, you can’t even see a nose poking out.
In summer he goes to the fridge for COLD water instead of drinking his own.
He has his own plastic glass to have his favourite drink in every morning, before he finished my breakfast of cereals.
If he asks for a walk, he usually gets it!
If he goes to his (LARGE) treat box on the floor for a “dog lolly” he usually gets one.
Scruffy asks to carry something from one place to another so he gets a treat for a reward.
He gets a large variety of human meat, only has tinned in an emergency!
He has his own door, and has the run of the house.
When hubby and I play a game at the table, he has his own chair in between us so he can put his head on the table and go to sleep while we play!
His dog bed we bought him to sleep in ( haha), is full of toys for him to pick out which one he wants at the time.
He has taken over about 5 chairs in the house when he sits and sleeps/watches us.
When I go to have a shower, he sits up on the covered in bath, waiting for his eyes to be done, and have his face washed.
If he wants to get nursed, he gets to be nursed!
BUT, he doesn’t rule us …. YET !
Gayle Beard says:
My husband and I are in bed, along with our dog Angel, we turn off the lights and he says “I love you darling” – and then he says “I love you too Gayle’.
kylie slinn says:
our four dogs, marley, bella, jake and lee lou are extremely spoilt.
marley and bella sleep under the covers in our bed where ever they want and we fit around them. the dogs sometimes gets specially made food or the bones from our leftovers and jerky stap every morning as a treat. they really never get into trouble unless they bark more than a few times. they have dog beds in almost every room and get to ride in the car when we go out to the shops so they dont get left alone at home. honestly you would think they run the house!
Liselotte Vogt says:
I am not about to complain as my dogs let me live in the house with them, I even get a small section of the Bed to sleep on, so all is good . One happy contented household.
Dollar says:
Where does one start. My Kuma is my shadow, she follows me everywere. I have to stop what I am doing to bring her inside by the fire for a sleep. She barks at me if I’m not taking any notice of she and I get up at all hours of the night to take her outside to the toilet. But we love her that much we would’nt have it any other way.
Simonja says:
It’s Winter and it’s cold. Brrr. My pooch has his own woolly coat that I knitted for him, including a matching bow tie as you never know what unexpected doggy visitors turn up. At night he sleeps in his pyjamas in his own soft little warm bed, ( hey, you do need some sort of doggy dicipline ) next to mine, on one of those pet-mat electric warming pads, covered with a woolly sheet, then he gets another blanket over him, just to make sure he’s really warm. During the day, when I am home, he gets 1001 cuddles every hour, that’s no bull, that’s the absolute truth. I just love my Fluffball to bits! He is the last ‘thing’ I see when I go to bed and the first ‘thing’ I see when I wake up are his big, beautiful, dark, lovable eyes!
Brycen Brook says:
He has his own lounge chair to lay on during the day and at night the electric blanket needs to be on for a while so that our bed is warm enough for him when he gets in to bed. You have to beat him to bed as once he gets into the bed it is very difficult to move him. He decides where he will lay on the bed and it takes a lot of effort to move him.
Lorna Miller says:

Im asofty when it comes to ben. Since the weather has been becoming so cold I bought a soft dog bed for ben and when he taps at the door I bring him in so he can be warm like the rest of us.
Belinda Bonello says:
My chihuahua Marco is in Mostly Cs. His trained but he knows he can get away with lots of things. His very pampered. He sleeps on my bed, he doesn’t like to be covered so he sleeps on top of my quilt. He doesn’t like tinned dog food so I buy him a roast chicken from the deli every week and he eats that for dinner. On Saturdays We make Italian tomato sauce with beef, but we aren’t big meat eaters to we give Marco my chihuahua the meat. On Sundays we make a roast with roast beef and roast vegetables, so we give Marco the meat and we have the vegetables. He loves almost any treats, he has his dog biscuits and his schmackos for breakfast every morning. Marco loves any and all attention probably because I rescued Marco from the pound. His now 14, but when I rescued him he was 9. His a highly allergic dog and has very sensitive skin. I have to always keep his flea treatments upto date because even just one flea gives him lots of hives. He also has fits. I love my chihuahua Marco, he gives me so much love and joy. He follows me around all day. If I go in the kitchen he waits for me under the table. If I goto the bathroom he waits at the door. If I go in the lounge room he lays at my feet and goes to sleep. When I go on the computer he quickly comes over and sits near the computer chair, right now his sitting behind it. He waits for me to goto bed at night and then he goes to bed when I do. He will only get up when I get up in the morning. He looks really sad when he knows I’m about to go out of the house. So I would say hes pampered but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Jim Fettell says:
Roxy our beloved 5yr old Aussie Bulldog (Female) Is basically our child. She is given the love that we gave our children at home. She has her own room and still wants to sleep with us. She is so loving in the love she gives us. She wants to be apart of every thing we do. But like raising a child she knows YES from NO. Well maybe sometimes. Could not imagine life without her. The affection she gives is unbelivable. Love her to death. Even after she has changed the shape of our gardens. And prevents us from having a weekend away. Oh well she is truly worth it.
Trish Biggs says:
Hello
My best friend Buddy (a huge 2 year old Labrador x Golden Retriever0 really does have his own pillow on ‘our’ bed but if it’s not close enough to ‘mine’ he pulls it over so he can comfortably have his head on ‘his’ pillow and just the end of his nose either under ‘my’ pillow or on some part of my head.
I might add ‘my pillow’ is usually hanging half off ‘my’ side of the bed as I am most of the time because he fell off once while stretching and we can’t have that happen again, can we!!!
I love him so much (probably too much) but I’m 62 years old and he is probably going to be the last in a long line of ‘best friends’ for me.
Regards Trish

Oh dear… my two cavalier king charles spaniels sleep on the pillows in my bed, get fed in the kitchen (fillet steak offcuts, chicken pieces, top quality dry food, plus schmakoes as treats), they have their own special jackets (one waterproof, one soft for sleeping in) specially made for them, they get to sit in the front seat of my car… They’re pampered.
Margaret Marshall says:
My dog is that pampered that in the summer months when I go out, I leave the air-conditioner on in the kitchen/dining area to cool the house down as well as in my bedroom (where he sloths) I leave 2 fans going to ensure that he is cool enough. Being that I am on a Carers Pension I wasn’t so impressed however when I got a $450 electricity bill when they are normally around $140. I even showed him to the bill and said “See how much Mummy loves you” Crazy I know! But when you love something so much you would do anything for them.
Mary Spiteri says:
Portly is very spoilt, but he also knows discipline when I enforce it, which isn’t very often because I just talk to him & he does as he is told. He is a well behaved & knows his own routine, he can be abit of a bully when it comes to his Dad because he is third in the pack, Portly is second & he knows I am leader. He is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier hence the bully when he wants something. He knows where all the treats are kept & wants one when he wants. He plays when he wants too. But most of all he is very loving because we are with him 24/7 & only go out when we have too. He has the best personality & is fun to have around.
Mary Spiteri says:
Portly is very spoilt & is treated with all the love we can give him. He sleeps in the middle of the bed.
His Dad third in line & he is second, he know I am first & has a lot of respect for me, he is very obedient & there is not much need for discipline as he understands when I talk to him, therefore there is no strict commands. He bullies his Dad when he wants to play & get extra treats & knows which cupboard they are kept in. He goes to bed when he wants to usuallay around 11pm he sneaks of & get into bed. He keeps the peace when there looks like being an arguement, he paces to each of us so we can focus on him & then all is ok. We are with him 24/7 & only go out when we need too.
His Dad is with him until I get home so as you can imagine when we do go out there is a bit of separation anxiety tha’s why we try & not leave him on his own. Portly is lovable & the best member of the family we love him dearly.

Part of me is embarrassed to admit we recently bought our two pooches a brand new feather down doona and cover. The rest of me loves that our pups can’t get enough of their cozy new bedding and I now have to drag them out of bed in the mornings!

Rosie rules our home and tolerates us when we return from work. Her diet consists of dry food, chicken wings, frames and fresh bones from our cafe. We play the bicky game, each night and she sleeps, during winter, on the sofa in front of the fire, but, also has a bed in our bedroom, plus an outside bed for day times, when we are at work. She always checks to see if we are a wake, each morning, the good morning lick, starts each day.
Karen Dziekan says:
Monty our Cavachon (Cavalier King Charles cross Bichon Frieze) is fairly pampered by all the family I have to say since being rescued from an animal shelter last year. He prefers to sleep during the day on my lap or someone else’s in the family if I am unavailable. If however a cosy lap is not on offer then atop the best cushion, with a blanky on top of that, hopefully left for him on his look-out perch on top of the couch at the window is nothing less than what he requires or deserves! Oh I forgot to mention, not less than two walks a day will do before he settles down to a nice siesta before his favourite meal is prepared for him, heated not too hot and not too cold, just right. (Yes, he does look like a teddy bear) so the nursery rhyme “Goldilocks and the 3 Bears” is his favourite!

We have two dogs, one is 14 – Springer, going on two and one is 1.5 years – Sally and completely nuts! She should be a working dog but is too busy playing with the goats and sheep to work them. Springer just loves chasing and chewing toys. Everytime I go shopping I buy her a squeeky dog toy – no I am of the old school, I do not spoil my dogs!- and she hops in the car, sniffs the shopping boxes and bags to find the toy! 5 minutes later no more squeek, ’cause she killed it. Then they just chase the toy and the other dog. Springer chases the Toy, Sally chases Springer

Kerrie & Oki says:
I love my boy Oki so much – he is such a smart loving big boy (all 38 kilos of him). He is really a person you know – of course he sleeps in our bed in the middle stretched out like a real person. He recently recieved a little sister named Sacha all 500 grams of her – Sach is actually a kitten but we call her the “terror-byte” so now our boy spends his day looking out for his baby sister – that’s when she is not chewing his ear, nose or kow powing him with her tiny paws. Oh, the best game is when Oki gets a toy in his mouth and Sacha chases him(!) around the closest obstacle like the dining table or the outdoor table or best of a figure 8 around the old Poinciana tree. You can see who the boss of the house is – and I give you the tip t’s not mum or dad!!!

I love my Staffy, she is my little shadow, I love it of course, she makes me feel special! She sleeps on my bed every night, In summer its legs open bare belly in front of the air-conditioner, on really cold nights she sneaks under the covers for some extra warmth, and often pushes my husband and I out of the way in the process!
Jennifer says:
Our Darling dog is very pampered, she has 2 kennels so during the day she can always keep out of the wind if need be, as they are at different ends of our back garden. She also sleeps inside our Laundry at night. When she is inside and upstairs with us Abbie is allowed to be on the Couch and it has a special cover on it jjst for her.
Samantha Clement says:
My darling Siberian husky jojo is the love of my life. Next to my husband of course! He sleeps on our bed every night and has his own special blanket I cover him up with. I buy him different toys every week and on special occasions(or just an excuse for one) I preorder a special carrot and walnut carob cake from our local doggie bakery, the woofery. He loves his daily chocolate milk(for dogs of course) and I’ll cook him meat from the butcher as a treat as he hates raw meat. I take him for a walk every time jojo goes to his leash, I just have to take him for as many walks as he wants. I’d feel too guilty otherwise! When my husband and I have to go out without jojo, I make sure to get his favourite babysitter over, my mum, so he’s not lonely and by himself. His love is unconditional, he is an important member of my family and I couldn’t picture life without him.

Patrick, my Belgian Shepherd Dog (Groenendael) is a valued member of my family. I live with my sister and my cat and Patrick. Patrick has to have his early morning walk at 5.30am every morning, but he does wear his “Weather Beeta” red dog coat to save him from getting too cold on these early morning jaunts. He has his own bean-bag bed at home, but prefers my bed of course, leaving very little room for the cat and me to sleep. He travels with me everywhere, and when I take him to the Old Folks Home three times a week, he gets pampered and spoilt by all the Residents. They give him lots of cuddles and love, as well as little tidbits they have saved from their own meals. Needless to say, Patrick is very very spoilt by the old folks as well as me! He needs his walks to keep him trim so he doesnt get too fat! Thanks for a great site!

Our seven year old 4.8 kg Tenterfield Terrier, Jenny June is very fit, runs alongside my bike three times a week for 10 kms each time. If I relent and put her in the basket on the back of my bike before her 10 kms is up, she whines, barks, and hangs three of her four legs outside the basket, trying to indicate to me that she would rather run.
She vocalises on command, saying “please” when I suggest it. She comes with us everywhere we go. If she can’t come, we don’t go either.
Barry Beetham says:
Evenings I watch T V and Jake lies beside me and Daisy lies on my lap covered by a blanket – on my lounge chair; Jake will get up and walk to his kennel; I carry daisy; each has his / her own kennel but in Winter they sleep in one kennel; each has a kennel; one has an old cardigan of mine; the other has a blanket – to sleep on; both kennels are carpeted with the carpet curling up near 150 mms up the kennels’ walls; AND! Both kennels have foam rubber under the carpet; and each kennel has a blanket totally covering each kennel with the blankets covering the entrances so Jake and Daisy have to climb under the ‘curtain’ blanket to enter / exit.
First thing in the morning, I go outside; take them up the back yard to piddle and then into my bed where they keep comfy and warm while I read before breakfast; they have a bowl each and have half a wheat bix each and mueslie and milk or porridge, depending on what I have. There’s a doggie bed outside – carpeted – and the two lie there in the morning sunshine.
When I get home, the two jump up and down inside the gate with much excitement and pleasure at seeing me drive home. And as soon as I sit in the lounge chair, one is beside me and the other on my lap; each knows his / her place and goes to it the moment I sit.
Barry Beetham says:
Oh! I walk the two every afternoon; food – some wet food, some dry food; occasionally bones specially cut small or chicken neck bones; and there are the doggie treats and at morning tea we give them a treat too.
Barry Beetham says:
and daily when we go for walks each afternoon, they have to mind their own business; not bark at others and not race across to dog / s that bark at them from their yards; and to stay on the footpath and not go on the street or cross the street.

Both dogs are treated as children – sleeping on the bed each night, covered in fur blankets although Bailey likes to sleep with her head on the pillow whilst snuggling under the bed clothes. Both enjoy ‘tap drinks’ – jumping onto the vanity unit in the ensuite in order to enjoy fresh running water! Photos can be supplied. The dogs are very much part of the family!

Buster is a Blue Heeler/Staffy cross, and is nearly 11 human years. He has always been an outside dog, with a kennel built with love: off the ground, wooden polished floors, proper roof ith guttering. Alas, he never slept in it!! Whatever I put in, rugs, pillows, toys, would always be pulled out, but he never went in. Old age started to creep up on him this year, with Arthritis in his back leg, limping on it only when we looked. Look away, take a sneek peek and the poor old leg was not alimping anymore. Anyway, because of the really cold mornings and nights, I thought of trying his kennel out again, as he had out stayed his welcome inside. Back in one of my cupboards, I found the lambswool underblanket my parents used on their double bed, but I had a queen, so did not use it and completely forgot about it. This would be just the thing I thought, and an old quilt put underneath for extra comfort. I made his bed up that night, we put him out and waited for the usual bark and wimper to come back in. Nothing! Expecting to find everything pulled out of the kennel next morning, we walked out the back, and all you could hear was loud snoring coming from his kennel. He just loves it, never comes out now, only for a walk or to have his dinner. Best of all, he has regained vigour in his Arthritic leg, not even bothering to limp for sympathy anymore. Everynight I go out and make his bed for him, and I’m sure he has the best room in, sorry, out of the house.

My little princess is a 12week old Shar Pei, so start up she ticks all the boxes of being the CUTEST little pup EVER! She has a beautiful shining pink color, her red bed doesnt get used much, shes always either on the bed with us, or on my lap! What tops my little girl off, is her very cute pink socks, she just thinks shes “all that” when she struts her stuff in them!

I call him my baby boy, and he has been my constant companion since I lost my husband 2 years ago. Yes, he does sleep on my bed, on his own blanket (not on mine!), and he shares the couch with me while we watch TV at night. He is bathed weekly with Pantene so he smells and feels great. There are rules, as there are with all parents and their children, and he generally obeys them. The cat is the boss of him, though, despite regular tussles for supremacy.

Well for breakfast, i prepare an egg flip, and for dinner, sardines with sasha’s blend and some extra oil for his coat, and when I am away on business trips, I know he gets chicken livers because he looks lonely

My dog is a year old Golden Retriever named Bonnie. She has vegemite toast every morning. She stays on the lounge during the day when were not home and loves her toy being thrown. At night she has her dinner of dried, wet and part of what were having. When mum is cooking dinner Bonnie sits next to her with her mouth open and waits for mum to drop something in her mouth. She then goes outside for a while and barks when she wants to come in. For bed she gets into bed with my brother and hogs as much of the bed she can get.
Its a hard life for dogs when you get fed and pampered every day!

When we went on holiday we looked at boarding kennels. None were up to par so we bought a Dog Carrier and booked King Muttley a return airfare to Queensland too. Had a seat on the plane next to us been an option we would have sprung for that so we’d know he was okay.
Kim Lindsay says:
He’s not spoilt, He’s just rich.
Roslyn Matley says:
We live in a cold area, so of course Saffy the 4yo Lab is not required to be an ‘outside’ dog. We live in a one room shed, so I make a bed up for her on OUR lounge so she doesn’t hurt the fabric. She starts off there (or on the floor if she chooses) most nights, but by 1am she’s usually sneaking up onto our bed and normally settled at the foot on my side leaving me very little room to stretch out! I don’t mind in the cold months though!
Lynne Edwards says:
Our two dogs have their own beds and blankets which they love to be cuddled up in at bedtime.
They invariably end up in our bed during the early morning though and snuggle down under the doona.

Katherine Elliott says:
in our house we all have a weekly budget, including Jasper our Cocker Spaniel. He gets $20 per week pocket money and we take him to Pet Cafe – where they have all the treats at Dog height – so they can choose their own, which he does, including new toys – we always show him, and he chooses. Also when we get back from the supermarket – he watches patiently as we put the groceries away, to see what we have brought him!
We spread his treats out over the week, and on top of those – he has 3 ‘puzzle’ toys a day filled with dry food and some treats to keep him occupied – from Kongs and a bob-a-lot to drink bottles, with no lid – these are some of his favourites, cheap and it takes him ages to get the kibble o come out the nozzle.
Maria-Grace Guerreiro says:
My Princess (yes that’s her name) must sleep with a pillow under her head in her doggy bed. When it has been removed, she goes to the bedrooms, finds one that takes her fancy, grabs it and places it on her bed before retiring. Princess refuses to sleep in the back room during Winter, she waits for me to be at rest, opens the back room door, silently creeps through the house, opens my bedroom and very quietly and gently jumps onto my bed and settles next to me with her head on the spare pillow hoping I don’t realise she is there until morning.
When people drop in or pass by on the street, she demands to be acknowledged, otherwise barks at them endlessly until they pat her and speak to her.
Tanja Frugtniet says:
My Rhodesian Ridgeback is now three years old. She has eaten 4 Snooza beds and has two D1000 Snooza mattresses for in and outdoors, she also has a Durabed in my bedroom when she decides she will sleep in my room occassionally otherwise when she wants to stretch out she will go to the living room for her D1000 mattress and then she has a Jute mattress in the study for when she wants to watch me do my computer work. If I am even 20 minutes late home to feed her she will be vengeful and chew a hole in her bedding. She has scratched every polished floor board inside and outside my 108 year old house. She refuses to allow me to cuts her very long, black nails and jumps out of the bathtub before I have finished rinsing her off, shaking suds all over the bathroom! But she loves her grooming with the zoom groom brush and always is ready for a walk. To give me a hint she will nudge the hanging leash and collar on the back of the front door. When she wants attention she will sit upright and in front of the television so that we cannot see and she will continue to whinge until her needs are seen to first and foremost. But I love my Malaika (Swahili for Angel and Princess) however, she is anything but an angel … she certainly is a princess!

PLEASE NOTE :
People who visit and complain about our pets:
1. They live here … you don’t.
2. If you don’t want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture.
That’s why they call it ‘fur’-niture.
3. I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.
4. To you, they may be animals … to me, they are young’uns who are short and hairy.
They walk on all fours and don’t speak clearly.
