Pet Travel Tips
Work has gotten to you and the stress is causing you to not function properly. It’s time to hit the road for a little R&R. You do all your planning, except for one thing: what about the dog?
When making travel plans, it is always a toss-up about what to do with your dog. Should you bring them? Should you find a sitter? Sometimes, you have to leave your dog behind and that leaves you and your pet a little unhappy. But today, people are becoming more accepting of travellers with pets.
Whether you are camping out or going to a resort, there are many options for you and your dog to enjoy a break from reality. There are many hotels that are “pet friendly” and will allow your dog to stay with you. But ALWAYS check in advance to see if where you will be staying allows dogs. And also check any other destinations you may go to for their pet policies.
And speaking of checking, before you depart, take your dog to the vet for a check-up to make sure that they are in good health to travel. This will also remind you to have a medical history and other documentation of your dog on hand. Also, get numbers to emergency vets in the area you are going. Bad things, unfortunately, can happen on vacation and being prepared can mean the difference between life and death.
Other important items to bring with you for your dog include towel, dry food, water, water bowl and toys. These items can help make their trip more pleasurable and save you a few headaches along the way. These can distract your dog during the drive and help them cope with the stress of the trip. Also, having something familiar for them will help them deal with the new surroundings.
