Using lovely lavender as a natural fly repellent.
For those living in warmer areas, summer-time can be especially annoying for dogs and their friends when the flies decide to visit. They are especially attracted to larger dogs and can often be seen hovering around your poor doggy’s ears. Chemical fly repellents for dogs are difficult to find and apart from being expensive, can cause long tern harm to your dog.
Lavender has traditionally been hung in door-ways to ward off flies and can also be useful in at least reducing the numbers chasing after your dog. I generally prefer to use Lavender Grosso which has the highest oil content and is also the sweetest smelling. Simply fill say half a bucket with lavender flowers or leaves, boil a kettle or two of water, pour it on and leave to cool.
For the last step it is best to tie your dog up as its not very nice having a bucket of cologne poured over you. I generally shampoo my dog normally then give him a final rinse with lavender water. While it doesn’t get rid of the flies completely, he doesn’t sit around covering his ears with his paws anymore.
