Bathing your dog

You have to be very careful when you are bathing your little pooch, because if you are not careful enough, the dog risks catching some serious infections. For example, the dog may get some ear infections if you don’t use some large cotton balls to stop the water from flowing into the dogs ear canals. The signs of an ear infection are constant discharge from the ears and a lot of head shaking.

How often you should bath your dog depends on its breed. If your dog has plenty of hair, like the cocker spaniel, you should bath him at least once every six to eight weeks. If you bathe these breeds too often, then the skin and coat get hurt and lose the protective functions.  It’s also important that you avoid some irritating soaps or human soaps. Please note that the soaps which are made for us human are not suitable for dogs. Therefore, be sure to always use products that are made mainly for dogs.

Before you bathe the dog, it’s a good idea to have a blanket laid out on the floor; two towels by the shower or tub; his shampoo, conditioner and a washcloth in the shower or tub; and a brush, comb and trash bag on the blanket.

Many dogs get scared when they are bathing in a bathtub. They jump around, slip and fall, shiver and shake, and are simply unhappy.  So my tip is instead to give your dog a shower. Your dog should feel much more relaxed and less scared standing on firm ground.
