Go Green for your Dog
There’s a lot of environmental buzz lately about our impact on the planet and little things that can be done to reduce that impact. Buying organic foods is one thing; not only have studies shown that organic foods are better for the environment, they are also better for you. But what about your pets, don’t they deserve organic food, too?
Traditionally, animals were essentially fed low grade residual from abattoirs and other meat processing manufacturers. Surplus cereals were mixed in, basic vitamins were occasionally added and it was canned to go. But widespread changes in attitude sparked an interest in animal nutrition and contributed to the availability of organic dog food.
Keeping your pet healthy should be a priority; not only because they are part of the family but because vet bills can be expensive, especially if you don’t have pet insurance or you’re unprepared for the cost. Making sure your dog’s diet is free of chemicals and preservatives will keep them happier and healthier. Organic dog food lessens the amount of preservatives your dogs are ingesting.
You can buy organic dog food, or make your own. By making your own dog food you know exactly what goes in; and it shouldn’t put too much more strain on your budget. There are a lot of free recipe sites on the internet and making your own dog food means you won’t have to check labels for preservatives or other harmful food additives.
Of course, the choice to go organic for your pet’s food remains with you; but doing the best for your dog should be your main priority. They are, after all, man’s best friend.
