Classes are also a perfect way to socialise your puppy and familiarise them with other dogs and situations. It’s also a great time to social for owners! Ask your veterinarian or look in your local paper for more information on puppy classes.

Key Manners

The way dogs greet people and other dogs is very important. A rambunctious and out of control hound can frighten people and their excitement can be misread by other dogs and spark a fight. A calm and mindful pooch makes a meet and greet safer and more enjoyable for all involved. Begin introducing your puppy to a variety of situations and people early on. This will relax your pooch and make him less prone to over-excitement or nervousness. Whether a doorbell or knock on the door, make sure your puppy knows it is not ok to bark excessively at strangers and absolutely no jumping is allowed. With treats and praise get you pup to sit calmly while greeting others. If you exude confidence and calm, your pooch will follow suit. This is particularly important while meeting other dogs while out and about.

Love & Praise

Make sure to constantly praise your pup for his improvements. Remembering all these lessons isn’t always easy and a good long run or playtime in the park is a great reward for a hardworking pooch. Don’t hesitate to throw in some tricks along the way either! Your dog and you will tire of learning manners. Teach your pooch a fun trick. This is stimulating and exciting for both of you and is a great bonding activity.
