World’s Smartest Dog

Posted by: Dog Diaries on 06 May 2009

Most of us are happy when our dog follows simple commands such as sit, lay down and roll over, but some dogs can do a lot more. Amazingly, some dogs can  do maths, move objects and listen to human commands better than we can. So who is the World’s Smartest Dog?

This title has been contested and claimed by several people (on behalf of their dogs, obviously!) around the world. What makes a dog the smartest dog in the world? Number of tricks? Type of tricks? While there is a list of the world’s smartest dog breeds, these dogs go above and beyond what is expected of most mutts.

Who do you think deserves the title of World’s Smartest Dog?

Skidboot
At first, his owner, David Hartwig, didn’t think he would be anything special or extraordinary, but he was certainly proved wrong. In 2003, Skidboot claimed the title of Animal Planet TV Network’s Pet Star competition. This eventually led to appearances on day-time shows such as Oprah and many shows throughout the country.

Chandra-Leah
The toy poodle made a name for herself by claiming a title in Guinness World Records for performing the most tricks. With over 1000 tricks under her belt, she takes direction better than some humans. This amazing dog has made guest appearances on Maury and Live with Regis and Kathy Lee. She even knows her ABCs!

Gracie
Although TV appearances and titles do not apply to this Golden Retriever, Gracie surpasses the normal tricks of a dog. From getting items from the refrigerator, recycling cans to speaking like a human, Gracie is definitely in the running for the title.

Sadly, all 3 dogs are no longer with us, but have left a mark and legacy behind. Although no dog currently claims the title as the World’s Smartest Dog, these are just a few dogs for your pet to aspire to.
